Hopkins' time is still sitting pretty.

... and what is that Cal's time (race pace lap) on an R1 is faster than Sykes? But I thought the R1 was too old to be competitive.

Why are the Ducati's so bad when they started the season with some promise? It can't be the engine as is was redesigned to get more upper rev power to compete against the 4's. Did they remove the weight restriction? I guess that leaves the new monocoque chassis as a problem.

The tires Marc, this isn't 2011. You do not see the fours having to dance around tire issues, Checa said it himself about 2012 on gpone that the tires changed enough to suite the 'fours'.

The control tire is not helping Ducati like it did in 2011, also the bike is new and so the data isn't there to help refine setup and electronics, etc...

plus, maybe the bike isn't that great anyways.

Seems to me that a control tyre should not favour any bike but what you are saying here is that the 2011 Pirelli tyres actually were favouring the Ducati ! Now it would seem they are not BUT that does not mean the favour the fours it only means that the Ducati cannot get the best from that tyre. In fact what is happening now is that Pirelli are now making a tyre that will last an entire race for ALL of the bikes taking part in the race and not just the Ducati's because that is exactly what was happening in 2011. Had it not been for Aprillia the same situation would still apply the only reason the tyres changed was to please them, but opps it als

Going by first practice it looks that j rea is in for a slow weekend . What talent going to waste on a slow bike. Is JR just happy to be well paid without a title?.
He will not win the championship on a old Honda.
Better get out of there JR and get into moto gp.

Yeah thats right, which bike is Canepa riding in SSTK1000 right now? Don't blame Checa if he cant manage what he did in 2011, he just doesnt have the advantage he did back then, and the bike is pretty brand new. I would probably agree that the trellis is a fundamentally better design than the more complex monocoque, but lets be real, setup and tires mean a hell of a lot more to a racers final finishing position than whether or not his frame is made out of carbon fibre or steel.
