WSBK » Rapid Guintoli heads up heavily depleted Q1 order

Aprilia's Sylvain Guintoli goes fastest again in Q1 at Istanbul Park, but just 15 riders make it out on track in Turkey as injuries take their toll...

The fact that someone like Elias can come in and immediately be top 5 and Ginters can be leading the championship shows how little real talent there is in WSB nowadays.
Long gone are the days of riders of the calibre of Haga or Bayliss at their peak.
That's why the spectator numbers for WSB are dropping everywhere.

LLarry so you think Guintoli whos led Moto GP races and Elias whos won a Moto GP race arent up to much ? I accept that Bayliss was exceptional and also won in Moto GP - Haga although fast, never won a championship. Apart from the 2 or 3 top guys in current Moto Gp the WSB riders are amongst the best in the world.

tomcol, what MotoGP race did Guintoli lead?
What has Baylis got to do with it? Neither Baylis or Haga made it in GP, Baylis one of win came after 3 years of below par results. Haga and GP shouldn't really be mentioned in the same sentence.

I am interested to see how Sykes goes for the rest of the weekend to see how he copes with new tracks. Remember though the top 3 have raced at Turkey albeit on GP bikes.

Thing is Stewie Griffin on his trike could qualify here at this rate.

Guintoli may lead but loses his appeal against Tom Sykes on the Route 66 debate...

You need to win some races now boy, else might as well start a new carrer in wine making or something in France...

Elias is not a junk rider... he has struggled in the last few years but he has potential and seems to need an ideal bike to make things happen. With that said he put that Ducati on the steps about the same amount of times that Vale did and he was on a Satellite version.
My only gripe with him is his lack of consistency, he seems to ride well when his contract is on the line which means he has a motivational/lack of motivation issue.

Superbikes may well suit his riding style since he is small and in GP he could not get heat into the tyres due to his riding style. SBKs are heavier and may play to his style and riding ability as well as the Pirelli's... Pirelli's are not as stiff as the Bridgestones so he might be dam good on a sbk!!

Although he compared his style to Marquez there is one critical difference... MM hangs off with elbows down in the middle of the bike (probably cause he is taller than Toni)...Toni hangs off elbows down over the front of the bike....this means the rear is too light and he overloads the front! That is why he needs/needed the larger 400 front tyre (for contact patch) but that did not solve his light rear end and lack of heat in the rear tyre...but again this may be less pronounced in SBKs!! with Pirelli and heavier motorcycle!
Couple that with the small Aprilia and his riding position may be less detrimental to his performance..
