I know Spies rode superbikes for a few seasons in the states but when he turned up at Phillip Island, a track he'd never seen before, on a bike that was vastly different to the Suzuki he was so familiar with, to take pole and win a race was mighty impressive.

#1 the Spies steamroller of 2009, get on board or get FLATTENED.

(honourable mention, though also already a GSE Superbiker)

Troy (the boy) Bayliss. iirc while Foggy was unfortunately going "Blackburn Down" on the island, he was setting pole at Daytona. then his phone rang, Kim answered. somebody named DUCATI CORSE would like a word with you...? who names a child DUCATI CORSE...? (Sheila accent)

rob.hoyles: Good feature, but if memory serves, Australia wasn't Alex Lowes's first weekend in the WSBK paddock.

Fairly sure he had a few rides on the Ten Kate Castrol Honda?

He did, Brno and Silverstone. One finish, 15th, at Brno in race 1.

I remember getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning to watch Foggy beat Russell to the 1994 title at Phillip Island, and some 17 year old kid went out and whooped both of them. Shame the Go Show never reached the potential that his raw talent deserved.
