"John [Hopkins] rode the last three BSB rounds with no feeling in the part of the finger he's now had cut off and did pretty well, so we expect that he'll be right on it" - Jack Valentine.

“@ Tetley. Haven't come across many riders with calluses on their fingers. Lots on their palms though. Posted by Motojunky”
That's true, no argument, but I was highlighting the punishment that top riders hands suffer and saying that the finger injury would have been causing some inconvenience at the very least. There's also the worry of “will it get better”, “will it be a permanent set-back”, “will I damage it more by riding”, “what if I fall off and damage it further”. There's also the aspect that training and testing would be reduced . The dressings on the injury would also affect the fit and movement of the glove. It is also fact that pain is natures way of saying damage is being done, and with no feeling there's the worry of worsening the injury without even knowing. I reckon all the above would have made more than a 0.006 difference at season's end. And 0.006 is a big deal if it is the difference between being Champion or not.
Like you, I say “Go Hopper” in 2012.
