You clearly looked at his '09 season, as many did, on face value. Saw results and said, "USELESS", without having a look at the unideal world racing often is. Yes, Tom was on a factory Yamaha, the bike that won the championship, BUT, that entire setup was built around Spies. I have nothing against Ben, in fact, I'm quite a fan, but he was allowed to basically have the crew of his choice, had a say in the setup of the bike etc. Whereas Tom had a crew that BARELY spoke any english, refused to take ANY of his suggestions into account, and he was generally made to ride with Spies' setup. Tom's own words from an interview in performance bikes.

Besides that, since then, in 2010 he was on the worst bike on the grid, still managed some impressive results. And since then it's been up up up!
