BMW announces it is reducing its involvement in the 2013 World Superbike Championship by switching allegiance to BMW Italia and running just two factory-assisted bikes.

They might be doing the same trick they did with mini in WRC. Do enough work and spend enough money to get the car homologated and prove that it's competetive. Then pull out as a factory and hope that a load of private teams buy them to compete with. It's still a mini winning rallies but your not bankrolling the project. I don't know what the actual structure will be but if BMW hold italia at arms length they will slowly withdraw. And the plan is that other teams will opt to run BMW's, instead of ducati's
