Yes, absolutely. Fans have got to get past the brainwashing that factory participation is essential and that (MotoGP esp.) that the bikes have to be always faster and technically space-age. The rules in MGP and they are instigating for WSBK are destroying racing series just to keep the factories happy - madness.

As you say - if there is a chance to be truly competitive in a world series, then Teams will want to be in it, and sponsors will want to back those teams. The teams will use whatever motorcycle package and supplier that meets the criteria to race with, fans will tune in to watch the best racers in a competitive series, and TV Channels will want to broadcast it.

And none of this is reliant on factory teams - that's just a myth perpetuated by the factory's for their own benefit.
