Troy Bayliss heads into Superpole as the rider to beat after beating his own World Superbike lap record around the Brands Hatch circuit in final free practice.
Having secured provisional pole position earlier today, Bayliss was out to make the most of the warmer weather conditions that have returned to the Kent track, snatching the top spot latter minutes when he produced a fine lap of 1min 25.416secs.
Beating his previous best, set two years ago, the lap was four tenths faster than he managed earlier today and with the circuit improving as the day goes on, he is a strong bet to take another pole position this afternoon.
Ryuichi Kiyonari maintained his status as a top two rider in every session just a tenth behind Bayliss, while Noriyuki Haga was also back in contention after a quiet qualifying performance.
Tom Sykes continued to impress on the Rizla Suzuki to emerge with the fourth best lap of the session – and one of the fastest of the weekend as a whole -, ahead of Yukio Kagayama on the sister Alstare Suzuki.
Troy Corser was sixth best, ahead of Lorenzo Lanzi, Fonsi Nieto, Max Biaggi and Jakub Smrz. Chris Walker was 20th fastest, with Tristan Palmer 30th and last.
