Jonathan Rea was frustrated to end up second on the grid at Brands Hatch, but is still confident that he has race winning pace ahead of his home World Supersport round.

Rea has been a class act all weekend after breaking the three-year old lap record twice ahead of final qualifying.

However, when Mathieu Lagrive caused a surprise by securing the top spot mid-way through the session, Rea was unable to respond when rain began to fall on his fastest lap.

Indeed, Rea had looked set for pole position - and the first ever Supersport lap to dip below the 1min 28secs barrier -, but was usurped with only two corners to go. Believing he could have gone quicker had the rain held off slightly longer, Rea is still pleased to be on the front row of the grid.

"It started raining on my fastest lap today, about halfway round so I couldn't improve on my lap time from yesterday. Another few minutes and we would have been OK. But to get on the front row of the grid was what we wanted most of all. The changeable English weather decided a few things today."
