Kiyonari confident in race pace.

Ryuichi Kiyonari has targeted a maiden World Superbike victory after qualifying third for his adopted home round at Brands Hatch.

The Japanese rider has been a star performer all weekend on the Ten Kate Honda, never dropping outside of the top three in any of the practice and qualifying sessions.

Also his first ever World Superbike front row, Kiyonari nonetheless realises he could have been on pole position had he not lost time in the final sector, particularly as he had gone quickest in the first two,

Nonetheless, by making the most of his Brands Hatch knowledge through two title-winning seasons in the British Superbike Championship, Kiyonari admits he is pleased to now be finding his feet on the world stage.

“I am very happy with that,” he told “I know this circuit and this country well, so I am feeling good at the moment. Ever since Monza we have not been having great results, but now it is much better. The bike is easier to ride than before, so I am feeling a lot better.”

Pointing out that the biggest difference in his recent upturn of performance is himself rather than the bike, Kiyonari has set his sights on only one thing come race day.

“We haven't made too many changes, so I think the big difference this weekend is me. I am going to go for the win, but I can only try my best.”
