Laconi maintains top ten form.

Regis Laconi and Kawasaki will start from their best World Superbike grid position since Misano after a mighty effort placed him ninth in Superpole for the final round of the season at Portimao.

Laconi has been on fine form all weekend as he bids to end a disappointing season with the team on a high, the Frenchman qualifying comfortably for Superpole with seventh quickest lap.

However, when the return of rain during the session made timing his best lap a lottery, Laconi got it wrong by coming out onto the circuit just as the heavens opened again.

Nonetheless, a committed lap in the final seconds was good enough to haul him into the top ten for a spot at the front of the third row, much to his delight.

“As I thought this track is fantastic on dry conditions. The weekend is going very well for us, we worked well and I have a good feeling with the ZX-10R. During the free practices session we focused most of all on choosing the proper tyre but we still have to confirm our choice.

“I made a mistake starting the Superpole too late, when the track was very slippery because of the heavy rain but after a tyre change I gave 100 per cent to recover some positions and I reached the ninth placement.”
