Kenan Sofuoglu ended 2008 as he means to go on in 2009 by sending out a warning signal to his rivals that he intends to revive his reputation in next year's World Supersport Championship.

After a nondescript year in World Superbikes, a return to the Supersport series prompted a revival in form for the Turk this weekend, Sofuoglu claiming pole position and going on to score a comfortable return win.

While a tardy first few laps saw him run as low as sixth place early on, a daring move to take the lead from fourth place on the home straight would help him into a position he wouldn't lose to the chequered flag.

Making a convincing pitch as a favourite for the 2009 title, not least to his new title winning team-mate Andrew Pitt, Sofuoglu is delighted to be back in the Supersport series with Ten Kate Honda.

"It's been a really nice weekend! I've already signed a contract to ride World Supersport with this amazing team next year, so this is a great way to start back on the CBR600RR.

"To be honest, I really didn't expect to be on pole this weekend but, after yesterday, I just wanted to finish the race on the podium. To take the win is an amazing way to finish a difficult year. Now I'm ready to make a really good job next season."

Indeed, team-mate Pitt is expecting a tough fight with him next season as he assumes the place of Jonathan Rea in the team.

"Johnny (Rea) has been a really tough opponent all season and, as soon as he goes, Kenan comes back with a performance like that. I was comfortable with the race, and the bike felt really good, so it's a good way to finish when the big trophy is already in the cabinet.

"I'm really happy for Kenan because it's been a really tough season for him. But I can tell him it won't be so easy next year!"
