This morning's session of pre-season testing at Portimao had to be halted after a combination of poor weather and an engine problem for Yukio Kagayama prompted organisers to end proceedings early.
With the Algarve circuit having suffered from intermittent rain throughout its week of hosting World Superbike and Formula 1 testing, heavy downpours during the final day's morning session ensured lap times were down well down on yesterday.
The session was then red flagged when Kagayama's Suzuki put oil down on the circuit, prompting a long clean up operation. Although the track was in a better state as the clock wound down, the session would not be restarted again.
Up to that point, nine riders had set a time with Michel Fabrizio going quickest with a lap of 2mins 01.679, 18 seconds adrift of those that were set yesterday.
Ben Spies followed him in second, while Shane Byrne's Sterilgarda team-mate Alex Polita grabbed back some of the limelight with the third best time. Byrne didn't go out onto track.
Of the remaining riders, Max Biaggi, Yukio Kagayama, Ryuichi Kiyonari, Leon Haslam, Shinya Nakano and Carlos Checa set times, albeit unrepresentative of their true pace.
Testing will resume in the afternoon.
