Stiggy Racing brought their first World Superbike test in Portugal to a satisfying close after Leon Haslam picked several notable scalps during a Superpole simulation
Using his experience of the knockout system from racing in the British Superbike Championship, Haslam qualified fifth on the mock grid to establish the Supersport graduates as potential frontrunners in 2009.
Although he admits the adverse weather conditions made it difficult for them to carry out the necessary work on the bike over the three days, Haslam's regular top ten appearances give him confidence heading to the first race.
“I'm really happy with today even though conditions were very mixed and we had to try out an all new Superpole qualifying. We also managed a couple of good runs in the dry today and that worked out really well.
“We have been trying many new things on the bike and even though this was a three day test, it felt like we sort of ran out of time. I have to say the team is working really well and the bike is improving all the time. Now I'm looking forward to our next test and hopefully getting more good work done before the first race.
