Biaggi fastest at Phillip Island.

Aprilia's Max Biaggi edged out Regis Laconi by just 0.01sec to lead the final day of the first 2009 World Superbike test at Phillip Island.

With the Ducati, Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha and BMW factory teams not testing until Saturday and Sunday at the Australian circuit, Aprilia's dominance came under closest attack from new DFX Ducati rider Laconi, despite a Wednesday fall.

The Frenchman exactly matched Aprilia's Shinya Nakano to share the top spot on Tuesday, when Biaggi had been forced to settle for third position after an accident. That fate, and position, went to team-mate Nakano on day two, but the WSBK rookie still set a lap time just 0.14sec from Biaggi.

However, surprise of the day was undoubtedly Broc Parkes, the Australian slicing over two seconds from his lap time to claim fourth place for Kawasaki.

Stiggy Honda riders Leon Haslam and Roberto Rolfo were left either side of Althea Honda's Tommy Hill, with Makoto Tamada completing the top eight on the second PBM Kawasaki.

Anthony West remained in control of the World Supersport test, although nearest rival Matthieu Lagrive was only 0.1sec slower.

The opening round of the 2009 WSBK and WSS championship takes place at Phillip Island on March 1.

I nearly wet myself when I saw that headline... ..then I saw who else was riding and regained some composure. Nice to see the Aprilia has pace, but without the big players they are merely todays big fish in a small pond. Still, not long to Qatar...
