Karl Muggeridge is targeting points on his debut with the Celani Suzuki team, despite the fact he hasn't sampled the bike yet.

Muggeridge starts his fifth season in World Superbikes this year with the Italian-based team, which is returning to the top flight after spending 2008 competing in the Superstock class.

His first WSBK season riding something other than a Honda, the former World Supersport Champion faces a tough task when he lines up on the grid for the opening round of the season on home ground at Phillip Island having been unable to ride the GSX-R1000 before it was shipped to Australia.

Nonetheless, with Celani forging a close relationship with the works Alstare Suzuki team, Muggeridge is confident he can prove competitive from the off.

"I haven't had the chance to ride a bike for about four months and we didn't get the chance to test the new bike," he said, "but from what we have been told about it we should be head and shoulders above where I started from in the last couple of seasons.

"If everything works as well as we hope, we should be able to get some decent results, and go for points."
