WSS: West ready for Supersport return

Anthony West's transition to the World Supersport Championship is almost complete after he set a good pace during pre-season testing at Phillip Island, Australia.

Having last been seen at his home circuit riding a Kawasaki MotoGP machine just a handful of months ago, West is now hoping he will be featuring at the other end of the grid riding a Stiggy Racing Honda.

He did he chances no harm during testing at Phillip Island, topping both Supersport sessions, even if he was up against just three other riders, including team-mate Gianluca Vizziello and the Althea Honda pair.

Nonetheless, West is feeling more comfortable on the bike and is confident that he has a good set-up to work with when the first round kicks off in just over a week's time.

“My main focus for this test was getting as much laps possible getting more comfortable with the bike and to get a better understanding and feeling for it. We are getting closer and closer and we have found pretty base set-up.

“I have been doing two long distance runs and were able to stay consistent and feeling good on the bike. The heat in the afternoon made us loose some grip in the rear so we worked on that as most likely it will be the same conditions for the race. Lap times could have been better but in the end of the day most important is that I feel more "home" on the bike now.”

Vizziello, meanwhile, was around eight tenths slower than his team-mate, although his time was mostly spent conducting long-runs.

“I'm happy with the two days testing. We have tried many many different things on the bike over the days and we are making good progress. We started off good yesterday working on the set-up and suspension a lot.

“I set my fastest lap-time yesterday and today I have completed two long-runs (10 laps and 15 laps) and was able to stay in consistent lap-times so that's is really good. Today's focus was finding the right tyres for the possible hot race conditions and also the base chassis settings. All and all it has been a good test and I'm looking forward to the race."

Just check Westy times against Sats trials at the island, very very competitive and as all Westy fans know he always races a lot better than he qualifies. and his first race on the WSS Yamaha back in 07 was at Monza in the dry on a bike he had never ridden, on control tyres that he had never used before at a track he had raced before. Qualified 14th and got 3rd by under a tenth of a second. was one of the best races you would ever see. Just wait until the end of the year and I reckon he will be top 3
