Corser leads Q1 casualties

BMW face a tough task in their first World Superbike Championship race after both Troy Corser and Ruben Xaus were eliminated in the first ever Superpole knockout session.

A frantic ten minute session for the 20 riders as they adapt to having barely any time to put in a good lap time, BMW entered Superspole with high hopes of a good result after Corser put the S1000RR fifth in provisional qualifying.

However, the Australian's best effort was only good enough to put him on the bubble in 16th for much of the session, before Regis Laconi demoted him into the drop zone in the closing stages.

With no chance to respond, single-lap expert Corser will start his first race for BMW in 17th, where he will be joined by team-mate Ruben Xaus in 19th. Honda pair Roberto Rolfo and Tommy Hill were also eliminated and will start 18th and 20th.

Jonathan Rea was quickest once again, the Northern Irishman getting to within a tenth of the lap record on his one and only attempt.

Segment two follows shortly.
