Leon Haslam has hailed the Stiggy Racing Honda team after announcing his return to World Superbike competition with a podium and a sixth place finish at Phillip Island.

An outstanding Superbike debut for the Swedish team, Haslam was in fine form throughout the day, running with the leaders in both races and producing the best result of the day for the Honda team.

His performance in the second race drew particular praise after biding his time before launching an assault for a podium finish. Running fifth for most of the race, Haslam first made his move on Max Biaggi with just three laps to go, before catching Michel Fabrizio in the battle for third on the final lap.

Swapping positions twice, Haslam finally made his move stick at the Honda right-hander before holding off an equally determined Regis Laconi for his third career WSBK podium.

Claiming an early third position in the overall standings, Haga paid tribute to the Stiggy team for their rapid rate of progress over the last few months.

"I'm over the moon today for our great result! It's our first time out there racing and to be able to bring home a podium finish is just fantastic! The team and I have made good progress and although we still have more to come, the bike and the team are obviously just great.

"We managed improve the bike a bit from race one to race two and I could fight my way up to the front guys. We definitely know in which direction to continue in the next round in Qatar."
