Luca Scassa and David Salom are eager to pick up the pace for the second round of the World Superbike Championship at Losail after a disappointing bow in Australia.
Although Scassa proved fairly competitive alongside his factory Kawasaki siblings Makoto Tamada and Broc Parkes, a pair of 20th place finishes was the best he could manage from the weekend.
With another new circuit for him to learn in Qatar, the reigning Italian Superbike champion is aware of the challenge he faces on the Pedercini machine, but is looking forward to getting more experience under his belt.
“It's my first time on this circuit and my second time on this motorcycle. I don't have any special goal to reach, but I want to do my best to continue the work we started in Phillip Island.
“I usually dislike new circuits because I'm not familiar with them, but I want to get to know Losail track quickly to be very fast as soon as possible. I want to do the best possible for both me and for my team.”
Salom, meanwhile, will be making his first Superbike appearance in Qatar, a year after he scored his best result of the season at the same circuit in the Supersport category.
“Qatar will be my second competitive meeting since jumping up from World Supersport to World Superbike. I feel I know a better way forward in terms of machine set-up over full race distance. We tried many new things there, so we should start qualifying from a good point”.
