Yukio Kagayama is hoping for a less destructive outing in Qatar as he returns to the scene of the accident that broke his collarbone at the start of last season.

The Japanese rider tangled with Carlos Checa during the second race of the weekend, the crash leaving him in hospital and out of action for the following round.

It is an experience he doesn't want to revisit, particularly after making an encouraging start to his 2009 campaign following a run to third place during the opening round of the season at Phillip Island.

Lauding his weekend in Australia for the fact he didn't experience a single fall, Kagayama is a former winner at Losail, albeit back in 2005. Nonetheless, he is confident the new Suzuki GSX-R1000 is capable of pushing him to a similarly positive result this year.

"Phillip Island was a good start to the season and I am happy because neither Max nor I crashed all weekend! The team and I have worked hard with the new GSX-R1000 K9 and a podium in Phillip Island was a good reward for all the work done, so thank you to my team.

"I've had good results in Qatar before, though last year was not so good, because ended up in hospital after a collision with Checa in race two. I hope this year will be better!"
