WSS: Crutchlow takes provisional Qatar pole

Cal Crutchlow has taken provisional pole position for the second round of the World Supersport Championship in Losail as Yamaha dominated proceedings.

The British rider, fourth quickest in free practice, moved to the top of the timesheets with the fastest lap of the weekend to put himself in with a good position heading into the final qualification session tomorrow.

A good day for the factory Yamaha outfit, Crutchlow's team-mate Fabien Foret followed him in second place, a tenth adrift, although Honda continued to look threatening as they filled out six of the next eight positions.

Leading their charge was Australia winner Kenan Sofuoglu on the Ten Kate machine, ahead of Althea pair Matthieu Lagrive and Mark Aitchison.

Practice pace setter Joan Lascorz slipped to sixth on the Provec Kawasaki, ahead of Parkalgar's Eugene Laverty, the Irishman making big gains on his 14th from free practice.

Garry McCoy represented Triumph in eighth, while Phillip Island podium winners Anthony West and Andrew Pitt were ninth and tenth.
