Tommy Hill is confident he can squeeze into his second World Superbike Superpole session tomorrow, despite a troublesome provisional qualification at Losail, Qatar.

Competing at Losail for the first time, Hill spent the free practice session learning his way around the circuit on the way to a modest 19th fastest time.

However, he would slip to 22nd in provisional qualification after technical problems with his lead Althea Honda bike forced him to switch to his second machine. With little chance to fettle a good set-up, Hill is currently two positions outside what he needs to take part in Superpole.

Nonetheless, Hill is confident that, having overcome his problems today, there will be much more to come in final qualification tomorrow.

"This morning was not so bad and I was learning the circuit. This afternoon we had some clutch and gearbox problems on our bike. I came back in and I re-entered with my second bike. My second bike setting was different compared with the first one and I spent a few laps to find the right feeling.

"I changed the tyres thinking to improve my best lap time, but because of some chattering problems I was not able to improve my lap time as I would have liked. Tomorrow I want to work hard with my team on my first bike, because we have to get a better set-up to enter the Superpole."
