WSS: Crutchlow quickest in free practice

Cal Crutchlow stayed on course for a maiden World Supersport pole position as he topped the second free practice session of the weekend at Losail, Qatar.

Although the final qualifying session, to be held later today, will almost certainly decide the pole sitter for the second round of the 2009 season, provisional front runner Crutchlow maintained his status as the favourite by going comfortably fastest in practice.

Hitting the front with just over half of the session to go, the Yamaha rider's effort of 2mins 02.442secs was enough to hold steady to the chequered flag.

After complaining of set-up problems on day one of competition, Andrew Pitt climbed the leaderboard to go second quickest on the Ten Kate Honda, while team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu was third, despite experiencing a tumble early on.

Joan Lascorz kept up Kawasaki's presence in fourth, ahead of Robbin Harms who produced his most convincing performance with the new Veidec Racing team in fifth. His former team, Stiggy Honda, were sixth with Anthony West, ahead of provisional front row sitter Fabien Foret.

Garry McCoy kept Triumph in the mix in eighth, while Mark Aitchison and Eugene Laverty made it six Hondas inside the top ten in ninth and tenth.
