Byrne pleased to reach Superpole shootout

Shane Byrne went a long way to putting a disastrous debut with the Sterilgarda Ducati team behind him by qualifying on the second row of the grid at Losail.

The British rider has been much more competitive in Qatar, going sixth quickest provisionally before reaching the top eight shootout during Superpole and securing eighth position on the grid.

Although Byrne admits he wasn't pleased with his eventual time of 2mins 00.021secs during Superpole, he puts that down to not having tested the qualifying tyres since the Portimao pre-season test.

With that in mind, Byrne is confident of a good performance in the races and is eyeing a chance to get amongst the 'leading pack'.

''We're all set for the race, I just have to practice with the start regulations, but most of the work has already been done and I'm confident I can fight for the top positions,” he said.

“I didn't perform at my best in the Superpole, both because I'm not accustomed to this formula and because I'm not really comfortable with the qualyifing tyres which I had tested only in Portimao.

''I'm sure tomorrow's races will be hard-fought as usual. Nevertheless, I'm confident I can get in the leading pack from the beginning.''
