WSS: ten Kate: We cannot wait for Valencia!

Ronald ten Kate thinks Eugene Laverty's win for Parkalgar Honda in Qatar bodes well for his team as they count the days down to receiving their 2009 specification Honda CBR600RR.

Laverty claimed victory over Ten Kate's Andrew Pitt with a last gasp dash to the finish line in Losail after a race-long battle for the lead.

However, while ten Kate admits he was frustrated to lose out so close to the finish, he is taking heart from the fact that they were beaten by the bike that they will receive for the following Supersport round in Valencia.

“It's not been the easiest weekend, so I was pleased to see both riders fighting for the win right through the race. Although we would love to have won, the victory went to the 2009 CBR600RR and to another well-respected Honda team, so congratulations to them.

“At the end of the day, we're still 1-2 in the championship and we're looking forward to getting back to Europe where our own 09 bikes are waiting and we cannot wait for Valencia.”

Maybe they decided to hold the '09 spec bike back to get a little bit more development time in instead of rushing them for the two fly-aways. The '08 is a proven race winning bike, so why rush the new bike if you don't necessarily have to?

What - the favoured almost factory Ten Kate team are not running the 2009 bike and that tiny Parkalgar outfit are ? If I was Ronald Ten Kate - I would be livid - Ten Kate are the WSS champions and shouldn't be on a year old bike ! What is going on ??
