Parkes eyeing top ten in Valencia

Broc Parkes is targeting a top ten finish in the latest round of the World Superbike Championship in Valencia following a successful test there prior to the race weekend.

Having missed a large proportion of pre-season testing whilst the reigns were handed over from PSG-1 Corse to Paul Bird Motorsport, Kawasaki instead used the three-week gap between the first two rounds and the opening European event to develop the ZX-10R in Spain.

Although their progress was stymied by Makoto Tamada's absence following an injury sustained last time out at Qatar, Parkes reported a significant improvement, particularly over a race distance.

With this in mind, the Aussie rider, who scored his and team's first points of the year in Qatar, says he wants to target a top ten result in the two races.

"It's been great to test in Valencia prior to the race next weekend. We've tried and tested so many things and had quite a few positive things to report back. The bike should be better over a race distance but we still have a lot of work to do on set-up but I'm getting more and more comfortable on the bike each time I ride it.

“We are all working hard, the team and myself, and we're confident that we can aim for some points in the races and being in the top ten would be a bonus."

Tamada, meanwhile, is looking forward to getting back on the bike after breaking his toe and bruising his pelvis at Losail.

"I missed the race at Qatar and also the test this week so I can't wait to get back on the track at Valencia. My injuries were not as bad as I first suspected. I am recovering every day, and I will be ready and fit for the Valencia race. It is my intention to get points at Valencia, and get back what I missed at Qatar."

Parkesy had a great return to WSB which is where he should be with two great weekend performances As the bike can only continue to get better its only a matter of time before a top ten finish and it could well be this weekend in Valencia Fast straight out the box and continually faster than the vastley experienced Tamada virtually everytime they've been out on the bikes Interesting to see the difference in times from the Kawasaki MotoGP bike in the three day test at Qatar to Parkesy superpole time in Qatar less than a week later and Melandri did seventy three laps Marco Melandri Hayate Racing Team 1min58 851 Broc Parkes Superpole 1min58 856 MotoGP next year
