WSS: Crutchlow grabs Valencia pole.

Joan Lascorz's domination of the Valencia World Supersport event came to an end in Saturday's qualifying session, when the home star lost out on a debut WSS pole after a late charge by Cal Crutchlow.

Lascorz, winner at Valencia one year ago, had been fastest in every track session leading into qualifying, when his Kawasaki again spent much of the session in P1. However, rookie Crutchlow pushed his Yamaha hard to dip 0.168sec under the Spaniard's best and claim his second pole position in a row.

Third placed Anthony West (Stiggy Honda) was over 0.6sec behind the top two, while Lascorz's team-mate Katsuaki Fujiwara completes Sunday's front row.

Crutchlow, who finished third last time out in Qatar, will start Sunday's race fourth in the championship, seven points behind Eugene Laverty, nine from Kenan Sofuoglu and eleven points from Andrew Pitt.

The three Honda riders suffered a tough time in Valencia qualifying, with Ten Kate riders Pitt and Sofuoglu ninth and eleventh - during their first qualifying session with the 2009 CBR600RR - while Qatar winner Laverty managed only 13th for Parkalgar. Pitt and Laverty both fell during the session.
