Joining them in the drop-zone was Tommy Hill and Brendan Roberts, who in turn with start 17th and 18th.

Ahead of Corser and Biaggi, Max Neukirchner set an outstanding pace at the head of the field, the German's single lap of 1min 37.946 smashing the lap record in the process. Shane Byrne was fourth quickest with Ryuichi Kiyonari fifth.
