Shane Byrne was once again left frustrated by his qualifying effort in the latest round of the World Superbike Championship at Assen, the Sterilgarda rider qualifying 14th.

The reigning British Superbike Champion had been hopeful of making the top eight shootout, particularly after he managed the fourth quickest time at the end of the first knockout phase.

However, Byrne struggled to repeat his performance in Q2, languishing at the bottom of the timesheets until a last gasp effort lifted him to 14th position on the grid. Starting lower than he had hoped, Byrne is looking to recover significant ground in the races,

"During the first Superpole session the bike started chattering and so I couldn't perform at my best. When I took to the track with softer tyres in session two, I thought I was going faster, instead I was probably taking a wrong trajectory in the faster part of the circuit.

"Tonight we'll analyse the data we've gathered so far with help from our technicians and we'll try to improve the machine. The starting position has held us back again. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to perform at our best yet. Nonetheless, I'll give it my all and hopefully pull off a good recovery."
