Byrne on top in Monza warm up event

Shane Byrne experienced his first taste of the winner's champagne since the concluding round of the 2008 British Superbike Championship after taking two wins in the latest round of the CIV Superbike Championship at Monza.

Taking the opportunity to warm up for the forthcoming World Superbike Championship event at the high-speed circuit, Byrne was a clear winner in both races of the Italian based series.

An attempt to improve his and the Sterilgarda Ducati team's flagging fortunes following the opening four rounds of the season, Byrne is feeling well prepared for this weekend's event.

"It was a good idea to take part in the Italian championship, which is a really good level, because it allowed me to get a good feeling with the Monza track. I also had the chance to race against my team manager Marco Borciani, who takes part in the domestic series.

“It was fun to look at each other on the starting-grid, but then the visors were down it turned into a real race. I was able to do 16 laps at an excellent pace, which makes me confident for the world championship round next week."

WOW 2 wins in a poor domestic championship. looks like byrne has found his level. The team should rid themself of this journeyman rider and rescue Nicky Hayden from the motogp wilderness. He would show this bike could be competitive. Sterilgarda drop this clown NOW and save your season
