Haslam, Smrz dropped out of Q1

Leon Haslam has been eliminated from the opening phase of World Superbike Championship qualifying at Monza after being edged out by Broc Parkes.

The double podium winner from Assen had qualified a provisional eighth, but finds himself starting a lowly 17th on the Stiggy Honda after a late effort from Parkes kept him out by 15 hundredths of a second.

Fellow podium winner in the Netherlands, Jakub Smrz, was another to not make it through, the Czech being forced to leave it late and unable to do any better than 20th. Joining them on the sidelines is Luca Scassa in 18th and Karl Muggeridge in 19th.

At the front, Max Neukirchner set the pace for Suzuki, ahead of Ben Spies and Michel Fabrizio.
