Gregorgio Lavilla will make a return to the World Superbike Championship for the upcoming round in South Africa after being drafted in as a replacement for Brendan Roberts at Guandalini Ducati.

Roberts was one of three riders to require medical attention following an accident at the start of the opening race at Monza, but while he would come away without any broken bones, he will be kept on the sidelines for Kyalami due to its proximity to the Italian round.

It means Lavilla, who has recently been tapped by Guandalini to compete for them in the Italian Superbike Championship, has been given an early promotion to join Jakub Smrz in South Africa.
