PICTURES: Turn one accident at Monza

It was the accident that brought a halt to World Superbike proceedings just a few seconds after the lights went out – and our photographers were on hand to catch each moment of it.

Prompted when contact between several riders forced Brendan Roberts down, it would send his loose Guandalini Ducati skating across the grass into the path of leader Max Neukirchner.

Together with accidents for Makoto Tamada, Troy Corser and Tommy Hill, the latter of whom saw his bike catch fire, the race was immediately brought to a stop.

The injury list, which includes a broken femur for Max Neukirchner, a broken wrist for Tamada and bruising for Roberts, means all three riders will not be present at the next round of the series in Kyalami.
