Whyte gets Yamaha chance at Kyalami

Shaun Whyte will join Sheridan Morais in making his World Superbike Championship debut at Kyalami after being drafted in to replace David Checa at Yamaha GMT 94.

Checa will return to the series for the next European event at Misano, the team choosing to give Zimbabwean Whyte the chance to impress having begun the season well in the South African Superbike Championship.

Yamaha rider Whyte, 39, brings a wealth of experience to the WSBK having begun his career 25 years ago and is one of five new or returning faces to the grid this weekend, joining SA SBK rival Morais, Gregorio Lavilla, Fonsi Nieto and Steve Martin.

Meanwhile, Yamaha GMT 94 will have American rider Erwan Nigon competing for them at the following Miller Motorsports Park round.

Shaun is such a quiet, modest guy ... he looked more like a fan in the paddock today than a competitor. He spent most of the day walking around with his family & taking photographs. He was part of the pre-event press conference, along with Fabrizio, Spies, Biaggi, Xaus, etc ... & immediately afterwards grabbed his camera & asked Biaggi to pose for a pic with his wife & child. Good luck Bones Whyte!
