WSS: Crutchlow: It was a proper dog fight

Cal Crutchlow says he lost out on the chance of victory in the latest round of the World Supersport Championship at Kyalami after getting caught up in a 'dog fight' at the start of the race.

Starting from his fifth consecutive pole position, a tardy getaway left Crutchlow towards the back of the leading pack. However, while he would eventually work his way back towards the front, leader Eugene Laverty had already established a sizeable lead.

Despite his best attempts to close down the gap, the Briton would eventually have to settle for second behind his Parkalgar Honda rival.

Nonetheless, the result marks his fifth podium in six races, helping him to maintain a comfortable 13 point advantage over Laverty as the pair begin to put distance between themselves and the chasing pack.

"It was a really tough race, the beginning was a proper dog fight," the Yamaha rider said. "It took me a long time to get through the pack and start working on breaking down Laverty's lead. By the time I got clear in second he had a big gap and I just couldn't keep it consistently quick enough to catch him.

“I made a couple of small mistakes which cost me some time so had to settle for the second spot on the podium. A big thank you to the Yamaha team again for working so hard this weekend."
