Carlos Checa returns to the scene of his 2008 World Superbike Championship double at Miller Motorsports Park keen to put in a performance of a similar magnitude.

Capitalising on the Salt Lake City circuit being a completely new venue for much of the WSBK field, Checa swept to his first win in ten years with his double triumph in 2008, a result that briefly marked him out as a title contender.

However, twelve months on, Checa is yet to revisit the kind of form that took him to those results, not least in 2009 as he arrives in the United States tenth in the standings with a best finish of fifth.

Nonetheless, two sixth place finishes last time out at Kyalami has boosted the Ten Kate Honda rider's confidence and while he expects the regulars to pose stern challenge for victory, he is hopeful he can get up there again.

"Everything has been good since Kyalami," he said. "I came to California at the weekend and I have spent some days with Wayne Rainey, who I have known for a long time; it's been good to relax with him again. We've had a few problems this season - it started with a shoulder injury and there have been some small issues with the bike.

"However, we approach the half-way point of the season and we bring some positives from Kyalami to Miller. Of course, Miller was good last year but I prefer to look forward and the circuit should allow us to put the CBR near the front again.

"I like left-handed tracks and we have some good data from last year. The Ducatis will be strong and so will Ben Spies, but I think we should be in a good position, too, and we will be going for a good result."
