Shane Byrne enjoyed a successful opening day for the seventh World Superbike Championship round of the season at Miller Motorsports Park to emerge as the top British representative.
The Sterilgarda Ducati rider has struggled to find form early on during race weekends, but proved to be a consistent top ten threat throughout free practice and qualifying, eventually ending the day seventh quickest.
Almost matching the pace of top factory Ducati rider Michel Fabrizio and emerging well ahead of his countrymen, Byrne was pleased with the positive start to his weekend.
"I'm happy with what we did today. We got on the track with two bikes each of which had a completely different setup and so we know now what we're supposed to do. In this afternoon's session we chose a set-up that fits my style and I actually was almost as fast as the top riders. I hope to do the same thing in both practice and qualifying tomorrow".
