Shane Byrne is hopeful he can get his 2009 World Superbike campaign back on track after overcoming a crash and adverse weather conditions to score his best grid slot of the season in sixth.
Much has been made of Byrne's struggle to match his pre-season testing form, but having been a consistent top ten threat on the Sterilgarda Ducati throughout the weekend, he was duly rewarded with a spot on the second row of the grid.
Not that he had an easy passage into the top six, Byrne crashing during Q1 before only just sneaking into the shootout with a rapid final lap achieved in deteriorating weather conditions.
Nonetheless, as the best placed rider not to have performed at the Utah circuit previously, Byrne is feeling good about the races.
"We're ready for tomorrow when we hope to do well. I got a good feeling with both bike and track and I was fast with practice and race set-up. The starting position is very good and I'm confident I have my shot at getting in the leading pack. I just hope to perform at my best and do well in both races.”
