Spies tops Miller warm-up

Ben Spies began his day as he means to go on by edging the fastest time in morning warm-up ahead of the seventh World Superbike Championship round at Miller Motorsports Park.

The American, who starts from a record-breaking seventh straight pole later today, was six thousandths of a second faster than Ducati Xerox's Michel Fabrizio following the short session.

Carlos Checa maintained his consistent top five form in third, ahead of local favourite Jamie Hacking, who continues to work wonders on the Kawasaki.

Jakub Smrz was fifth fastest, ahead of Max Biaggi, while Jonathan Rea and Leon Haslam moved themselves into the top ten in seventh and ninth respectively.

Elsewhere, Noriyuki Haga was well down in 19th position having completed just eight laps, the championship leader more than two seconds of Spies' leading pace.
