Cal Crutchlow was content see his advantage over Eugene Laverty trimmed by only four points following the latest round of the World Supersport Championship after expecting to finish lower than third.
Maintaining his run of consecutive podium finishes, now up to six, Crutchlow described the weekend as his worst of the season so far, despite the fact he was still involved in the lead fight up until the final lap of the race.
Although a charging Kenan Sofuoglu prevented Crutchlow from making a last gasp attempt at wrestling the lead from Laverty, third position directly behind his title rival was a satisfactory result for the Yamaha rider in the circumstances.
"For me it was our worst race weekend so far and we still managed to finish third and only a second off the win so I'm pretty pleased to be honest,” he said. “I could easily have finished fifth or sixth today so to finish third and just behind Eugene wasn't so bad in the end.
“We'll have to go back to the drawing board for the next race in Misano, a circuit I don't know but I'm looking forward to it to be honest. I think we and the team did a good job this weekend."
