Slights enters Porsche Cup.

Former World Superbike star Aaron Slight will race in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Croft in the UK on June 13-14, six years after his last appearance in the championship.

The New Zealander was Australian Superbike champion in 1991 before spending most of the 1990s racing in World Superbikes, scoring 13 race wins and finishing in the championship top three on five occasions. Slight also won the Suzuka Eight-Hour race three times in a row.

In 2001 he made the switch to cars and competed in the British Touring Car Championship and then selected GT races, including the Carrera Cup at Thruxton in May 2003. On his Porsche debut he scored an overall podium finish at the challenging Hampshire track.

Now, Slight will return to the Carrera Cup GB for the pair of races at Croft, where he is sure to be a big draw for the enthusiastic crowd during the BTCC meeting.

In January this year, Slight raced in a Carrera Cup New Zealand round, driving a latest specification 911GT3 Cup car in the support races at the A1 GP event.

"I finished fourth in my sprint race and finished on the podium in both the endurance races. It was fantastic fun to be racing again," said Slight. "I felt at home in the car and was really pleased to be using the sequential gearbox as that was my biggest problem last time I drove the Cup car."

Despite not winning a World Superbike title, Slight took 87 podium finishes during his WSBK career - a number beaten only by Troy Corser (128), Carl Fogarty (109), Noriyuki Haga (98) and Troy Bayliss (94).

Great to see Slighty on track again. He provided some great racing in the 90's WSBK. I always enjoyed the slating MCN used to give him whenever he spoke out against their darling Foggy! He should have ditched the Honda a had a few championships on a Duke

Those were the days, the sound of that RC45 and the duals with Foggy. Great racing. Big shame Slight never won that championship at Sugo, for some reason the Honda's never went well at that track. Glad he is in good health.
