Fabrizio quickest in wet warm-up

Michel Fabrizio kicked off race day ahead of the eighth World Superbike round of the season at Misano by claiming the quickest time during a wet warm-up.

The Italian, who claimed he is confident of his victory chances from fourth on the grid regardless of whether it is wet or dry, was six tenths quicker than Shane Byrne on the sister Sterilgarda Ducati.

Just as he was during the equally damp Q2 session, home favourite Luca Scassa was a strong third quickest on the Pedercini Kawasaki, with pole sitter Jakub Smrz and Jonathan Rea completing the top five.

Elsewhere, Stiggy Honda kept their running to a minimum, Leon Haslam completing five laps but failing to set a time after suffering a fall, while team-mate John Hopkins, who had claimed to be confident of making it out in the races today as he continues his recovery from injury, did not venture onto circuit.

Byrne, Ruben Xaus and Fonsi Nieto also suffered falls during the 15 minute session.
