Ben Spies is looking forward to hitting the ground running during the latest round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park as he looks to capitalise on having rare prior knowledge of the circuit.

Spies made his long awaited MotoGP debut at Donington Park last season aboard the Rizla Suzuki, an outing that saw him qualify eighth in the wet and finish a respectable 14th in the dry.

Twelve months later, Yamaha's Spies arrives at the circuit eager to continue bridging the gap between himself and WSBK title leader Noriyuki Haga having had his progress at Misano restricted to five points following a superb win and a glitch-ridden run to ninth.

Despite his 'mixed race weekend', Spies is looking forward to returning to the British circuit and is confident he can come away with the championship lead 'in sight'.

"Misano was another mixed race weekend," he said. "We worked hard all weekend and it showed on both races, unfortunately without the right result in the second one, although we still took more points and got closer to the lead.

"It's good to come to a circuit I know and have raced on before, giving me more time to work on the set up instead of learning the track. I really enjoyed racing here in MotoGP last year, so Sunday should be exciting!

"We need to leave here having taken more points away from Nori, so we can go to Brno with the championship lead in sight."
