Tom Sykes is looking to go one better during the latest round of the World Superbike Championship at Donington Park when he returns to the scene of arguably the finest moment of his young career thus far.

Although he is a three-time race winner at British Superbike Championship level, it was Sykes' run to second position as a wild-card at Donington Park that helped him secure a top level ride with Yamaha WSB for 2009.

While he is now the only full-time British rider on the World Superbike grid yet to have scored a podium this season, consistency has been the cornerstone of Sykes' campaign, particularly around circuits he has not raced on before.

However, Donington Park is a happy hunting ground for Sykes and is likely to provide him with his best chance all season of breaking that podium - or even victory - duck.

"After Misano I think we're definitely heading in the right direction towards getting the right balance on the bike for me," he said. "I should know what I need from the R1 for Donington from previous track experience. I had a good run last year as a wild-card so if I can improve on race one where I finished second I'll be happy.

"There are a couple of set up options to try, I already understand the circuit so I should really get to grips with the changes we make quite easily and hopefully we can do well. I want to come away with a perfect base setting for the remainder of the season and a podium or two and some decent points!"

Sykes is currently seventh in the overall standings, five points behind fifth in the standings.
