WSS: Crutchlow quickest in test opener

Cal Crutchlow warmed up for the Imola round of the World Supersport Championship by going quickest in the opening session for the annual two-day test.

Arriving in Italy off the back of an important victory at Donington Park, Crutchlow was a good three tenths quicker than Kenan Sofuoglu on the Ten Kate Honda, not to mention 1.3secs faster than arch title rival Eugene Laverty.

Despite being off the ultimate pace, Laverty remained a respectable sixth fastest, behind third place Fabien Foret, Mark Aitchison and Andrew Pitt.

All four manufacturers were present at the test, with Donington podium winner Garry McCoy seventh best for Triumph, ahead of Miguel Praia, Anthony West and Gianluca Nannelli.

Fifteen riders participated in the opening session, including two Britons, Michael Laverty and Sam Lowes, on the ECHO CRS Grand Prix Honda machines. In addition, Jason O'Halloran made his debut appearance for Althea Honda, although he was slowest of those competing.
