WSS: Sofuoglu doubles up for Ten Kate

Kenan Sofuoglu made it a perfect day for the Ten Kate Honda team after dislodging Cal Crutchlow from the top of the World Supersport timesheets at Imola.

Following on from Jonathan Rea's performance on the Superbike machine, Sofuoglu sprung a surprise by producing a stunning 1mn 51.522secs lap time during the final session of the week.

Prior to that, Crutchlow had been in charge throughout the three earlier sessions, putting considerable distance between the Turk. However, the Yamaha rider had to settle for second as the times tumbled, Crutchlow edging out Eugene Laverty into third position.

The only three riders to make it under 1min 52secs, Fabien Foret had to make do with fourth quickest, ahead of Triumph's Garry McCoy and Andrew Pitt. Gianluca Nannelli joined McCoy in making it an encouraging day for Triumph in seventh position.

Elsewhere, Jason O'Halloran ended his first World Supersport test with Althea Honda on a high with the 11th best time, just four tenths slower than potential team-mate Mark Aitchison. Briton Sam Lowes was 12th quickest.

What is this nonsense about the Yamaha being the reason for Crutchlow's performance? Yamaha haven't won a WSS title since the start of the decade and only Crutchlow is seemingly capable of putting it on the top step of the podium. The rest of the field is dominated by Honda, including Kenan's Ten Kate bike. This is only testing though and it is up to him to start winning.
