Ben Spies says he was focused merely on setting up his Yamaha during World Superbike testing at Imola as he chose to keep a low profile over the course of the two days.
Looking to get a jump on title rival Noriyuki Haga, absent due to his injuries sustained in an accident at Donington Park, Spies spent the test acclimatising to the Italian circuit in readiness for the event there in September.
While he didn't top the timesheets at any point, Spies never featured outside the top five on the way to the fourth quickest lap overall either. Even so, the American insists he wasn't using the test for set quick times.
“It's been a really good couple of days testing for me, we've not been out there trying to be the fastest guys, but have been focused on working through the set-up of the bike to make sure we have everything ready for when we race here and also just to shake it down.
“It's been really hot so I'm looking forward to getting away from the track now and relaxing before we go to Brno next week.”
