Haslam leads Q1 casualties

Leon Haslam and John Hopkins will start from lowly 17th and 20th positions respectively for the latest round of the World Superbike Championship after being eliminated from the opening qualifying phase at Brno.

Disappointment for the team given they tested at the circuit two weeks prior to the event, Hopkins didn't set a representative lap time during the session, while Haslam was edged out by a good late effort by Shinya Nakano.

They will be joined on the Superpole sidelines by 18th place Ryuichi Kiyonari, who misses the Q2 cut for the second race in succession, while Broc Parkes – who came into the session a provisional tenth - will start 19th after crashing out of contention.

Ben Spies led the way with a lap of 1min 59.729secs, the fastest time of the weekend thus far.

The only dumb thing is comments that have nothing to do with the headlines!!! What is it with Leon this year and qualifying? He's making races where he should be running at the front hard work for himself when he has to start way back down the grid. :?
