Fabien Foret was delighted to record a poignant first World Supersport win of the season at Brno, twelve months on from a serious accident at the same circuit that landed him in hospital.
Foret was embroiled in a thrilling last lap fight with Anthony West, Joan Lascorz and Katsuaki Fujiwara when his Yamaha team-mate retired from the lead shortly before the end of the race.
Although Lascorz and West both took turns in the lead around the final revolution, it was Foret's last corner lunge that helped him prevail, bringing some joy to the Yamaha team following Crutchlow's demise.
A 12th career Supersport win for the Frenchman, victory at Brno helps make his accident there last year a distant memory.
“Today was very special as last year here I had a big injury and I also haven't started this season very well. I found it quite difficult to come back so I'm really happy to be back on form. I'd like to thank my team and Yamaha as today the bike was amazing.
“It was a very hard race and I'm sorry for Cal, I know how it feels when that happens. I'm really happy to be back on the podium and the win is very special for me."
